About the Band

New Guinea Pigs is a hard rock band putting down roots in Grants Pass, Oregon. They're new to the scene, coming in with energy and enthusiasm. Their love of music is infectious, the shows are fun and inclusive. Make sure to show up and support local music while having yourself an amazing time.

The band formed when Tom and Adam met while at work at the grocery store. They quickly realized they both play guitar and share a love of all things rock. Tom has been playing guitar and writing original songs for years. Adam has been playing guitar and working with bands, making their flyers and helping promote show, for many years himself. It was clear to them that they needed to get together and play some serious, heavy rock'n'roll.

The boys played their first shows with the help of a drum machine, before fate brought them a rhythm section. While manning his cash register at the grocery store, Adam was talking about his love of music, his band, and their lack of a drummer. That's how he met Ken, who had played for many years in his youth but hadn't had a drum kit for over ten years. But when a chance to be in a band came up, the boys were able to find a drum kit and get things going. They played a couple of featured artists and a headline show, but still did not have a bass player.

Well Drew just happens to be Ken's neighbor, and both an exceptional bass player and musician in general. He had not played bass before, but took to it like a duck to water. Now the band is a complete 4 piece rock band, their practicing regularly while Tom develops new material.

Thank you for checking out our page and supporting local music. Please drop a line and let us know what you think and where you'd like to see us put on a show.

Tomcat Prowell

rhythm guitar, lead singer, songwriter

I started playing 6 years ago after my divorce as a way to keep busy and manage my mental health.

My songs are usually about something dark, or sexual, or about people and things i love. My songs are simple, but im not trying to reinvent the wheel. I just try to create a groove and a feeling with fun songs and clever lyrics. It's all about having a good time playing music with good friends, and hoping people like what we have to offer.

My influences are too many to count. The heavy hitters are:

Screaming Trees
Mark Lanegan
Pixies
Kiss

The White Stripes
The Beastie Boys
Dredg
Chris Cornell

Led Zeppelin
Genesis
Tom Waits
Depeche Mode

Concrete Blonde
My Chemical Romance
Elton John
311

...on and on and on...

Grew up in the Bay Area. Wanted to be a rockstar when i was 5 years old, and i heard KISS for the first time. Took me until i was 51 to start realizing that dream. My life is all about my cats, my kids, and playing music with my friends. I hope you enjoy my music thus far as i, as a songwriter, and we as a band continue to evolve.

"It feels good to play a little music. Tears running down my face cuz I love to do it."

Ken Snyder

drums, website and social media

I grew up in a family with a deep passion for music, and listened to a wide variety. My favorites as a kid were surf and punk rock; when grunge and ganster rap hit the scene, I was totally bought in.

In highschool I dabbled with guitar, singing and song writing. But after one jam session on the drums, I never looked back. We first taught ourselves songs from White Stripes and the Ramoens before moving on to more punk rock originals. Dave Ghrol's work in Nirvana and on Queens of the Stone Age's album Songs for the Deaf was the biggest influence on me, especially early on. These days I like to play a simple, clean style, with tight fills that reflect the main beat. Probably most similar to David Lovering of the Pixies or the late Jeremiah Green of Modest Mouse.

In my late teens and twenties I was in a few bands playing many shows around the bay area. I have always loved computers and doing stuff like making this website, so that has always been my role in the bands I'm in.

I was unable to play drums for the last 10 years, because of living in small apartments without a place to play and not being in a band. We moved from California to Oregon 3 years ago, and did not know many people here. So when I met Adam and Tom, I was thrilled to get a chance to play again, and I've been having the time of my life.

Musical influences are far too numerous to list, but the most important are:

Nirvana
Sublime
Alice in Chains
Built to Spill / Halo Benders
Marcy Playground
Johnny Hobo / Pat the Bunny

Beck
MF DOOM
Primus
Smashing Pumpkins
The Presidents of the USA
Defiance Ohio

Minutemen
Misfits
Dead Kennedys
Bad Religion
Wu-Tang Clan
Johnny Cash

Minor Threat
Fugazi
Modest Mouse
White Stripes
Aesop Rock
Sonic Youth
